Question 1 Report

HeightFrequency© EAGLE BEACON GLOBAL

The heights of a large number of adults are measured. When the frequency of each height band is plotted, the graph is a symmetrical bell shape.

What is this shape called?

Answer Details

When a continuous characteristic such as height is plotted and forms a symmetrical bell shape, that shape is called a normal distribution. A bar chart is used for discontinuous categories, and a random scatter or discontinuous pattern does not describe a smooth bell curve, so the symmetrical bell shape is a normal distribution.
