Question 1 Report
Name the muscle that acts as the agonist when the arm is bent at the elbow joint. [1]
Agonist during elbow flexion
The muscle that acts as the agonist (prime mover) when the arm bends at the elbow is the biceps. [1]
The biceps is located on the front of the upper arm. When it contracts (shortens), it pulls the forearm upward, producing flexion at the elbow joint. During this action, the triceps on the back of the upper arm acts as the antagonist, relaxing to allow the movement to occur.
