Fig. 1 shows a front view of the muscular system of the human body. Some muscles are labelled with letters A, B, C and D.

(a) Identifying muscles from the front view diagram

Based on their positions on a front view of the muscular system:

  • A = Deltoid - the cap-shaped muscle covering the shoulder joint, responsible for raising and rotating the arm. [1]
  • B = Pectorals (pectoralis major) - the large fan-shaped muscle across the chest, used to move the arm across the body and in pushing actions. [1]
  • C = Abdominals (rectus abdominis) - the muscles running down the front of the torso, responsible for flexing the trunk and maintaining core stability. [1]
  • D = Quadriceps (rectus femoris / quadriceps femoris) - the large muscle group at the front of the thigh, responsible for extending the knee. [1]
