The stomata of a leaf perform a similar function to the spiracles of insects. Stomata are small pores located on the underside of leaves that allow for gas exchange between the plant and the atmosphere. They open and close in response to environmental conditions, such as light, temperature, and humidity. During photosynthesis, stomata allow carbon dioxide to enter the plant and oxygen to exit.
