A former shipbuilding area beside the River Tyne is shown in Fig. 1. Heavy industry closed over several decades and left empty sheds, contaminated ground and high unemployment. A regeneration partnership has created a university campus, apartments, a riverside cycle route and small digital businesses. Residents are discussing whether the scheme has helped everyone in the surrounding urban area.
