Answer Details

(a) A suitable tool for scoring fold lines on card:

Scoring tool / bone folder [1] - a scoring tool creates a shallow indentation along the fold line without cutting through the card. This compresses the fibres along the line, allowing the card to fold cleanly and sharply without cracking or tearing. An empty ballpoint pen or the back of a craft knife blade can also be used.

(b) How the hexagonal end panels are cut out accurately:

  1. The hexagonal shape is marked out on the card using a ruler, compass and protractor to ensure each of the six sides is equal in length and the internal angles are correct (120 degrees for a regular hexagon). [1]
  2. Each straight edge of the hexagon is then cut out using a craft knife guided along a steel rule, working on a self-healing cutting mat. The ruler is repositioned for each edge to ensure a clean, straight cut along every side. [1]
