(a)(i) Two safety features that should be fitted to a lathe:

- Chuck guard (protective screen) - a transparent shield that encloses the rotating chuck and workpiece area, preventing the operator from accidentally contacting the spinning parts and shielding against flying swarf. [1]

(a)(ii) The emergency stop button provides an immediate way to shut down the lathe in a dangerous situation.
