Answer Details

Nigeria became a federation of 19 states in 1976. This occurred during the military regime of General Murtala Mohammed, who initiated the creation of additional states to improve administrative efficiency and foster development across different regions. The new states were part of an effort to address regional disparities and enhance governance.

This reorganization increased the number of states from 12 to 19.
