Answer Details

The quotation teaches obedience to civil authority. The quote is from the Bible, specifically from the New Testament, in the book of Matthew (22:21), and it is spoken by Jesus in response to a question from the Pharisees about whether or not it is lawful to pay taxes to Caesar. By telling his listeners to "render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's," Jesus is instructing them to fulfill their obligations to the civil authorities, while reserving their ultimate allegiance to God.
