(a) State four kitchen safety rules. [4] One mark each (max 4): - Always use oven gloves when handling hot dishes or pans (1) - Keep sharp knives in a knife block or drawer, not loose on the worktop (1) - Wipe up spills on the floor immediately to prevent slipping (1) - Turn pan handles inwards so they cannot be knocked off the stove (1) - Keep electrical appliances away from water (1) - Never leave cooking unattended, especially when frying (1) - Keep cleaning chemicals separate from food and stored safely (1) (b) Explain two ways of preventing accidents. [4] Two marks per way (max 4): - Store heavy items on lower shelves (1) so they do not fall when being taken down, which could cause injury (1). - Keep the kitchen clean and tidy with no clutter on the floor (1) so that people do not trip over objects or slip on grease or spills (1). - Ensure all electrical equipment is in good working order and regularly checked (1) to prevent electric shocks and fires (1).
