Question 1 Report
The conversion graph changes between kilograms and pounds.
A parcel has a mass of \(30\) kilograms. Use the graph to find this mass in pounds and then work out the total mass, in pounds, of \(4\) of these parcels.
This question has two stages: a reading from the conversion graph, then a straightforward multiplication.
Start at \( 30 \) on the kilograms axis, read vertically up to the conversion line and then across to the pounds axis.
\( 30 \) kg \( =66 \) pounds [M1]
All four parcels are identical, so the total mass in pounds is four times the mass of one parcel.
\[ 4\times 66=264 \text{ pounds} \] [A1]
Convert once and then multiply, rather than converting \( 120 \) kg on a graph that only reaches a limited value. The graph is a straight line through the origin, so the conversion is a direct proportion and multiplying after converting gives exactly the same result as converting after multiplying.
