Question 1 Report
Work out \(\sqrt[3]{2744}\).
The cube root asks which number, multiplied by itself three times, gives \(2744\).
\[ 14\times14\times14=196\times14=2744 \]So \(\sqrt[3]{2744}=14\). [B1]
You can narrow the answer down before reaching for the calculator: \(10^{3}=1000\) and \(20^{3}=8000\), so the root lies between \(10\) and \(20\), and since \(2744\) ends in \(4\) the root must end in \(4\), because \(4^{3}=64\) is the only single digit cube ending in \(4\). Do not confuse the cube root with dividing by \(3\), which would give a far larger number.
