(b) The role of a web server, as shown in the diagram:
- A web server is a computer that stores web page files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images) and responds to requests from web browsers by sending the requested files. [1]
- It processes incoming HTTP requests, runs any server-side scripts if needed, and delivers the resulting HTML content back to the client browser. [1]
(c) The sequence of events when a user types a URL:
- The browser sends the domain name from the URL to a DNS server, which translates it into the IP address of the web server that hosts the website. [1]
- The browser sends an HTTP request to the web server at that IP address, asking for the specific page identified in the URL path. [1]
- The web server locates the requested file, sends it back to the browser as an HTTP response, and the browser renders the HTML, CSS and JavaScript to display the page on screen. [1]
