Jesus made the statement, "...Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents" after telling the parable of the lost sheep. In the parable, a shepherd leaves his ninety-nine sheep in search of one that has gone missing. When he finds the lost sheep, he rejoices and calls his friends and neighbors to celebrate with him. Jesus used this parable to illustrate the love and compassion of God, who seeks out and rejoices over even one lost sinner who repents and turns back to Him.
