The nearest government to the people and an important means of promoting grassroots development is the local government. Local government is a form of government that is closest to the people at the grassroots level. It is responsible for providing basic amenities such as primary healthcare, sanitation, and primary education, among others. The local government also promotes grassroots development by providing employment opportunities through the execution of various development projects. It is the government that is directly responsible for the day-to-day running of communities and is therefore better placed to understand and meet the specific needs of the people.
