The first political party in Nigeria was the Nigeria National Democratic Party (NNDP).
The NNDP was formed in 1923 by Herbert Macaulay, who is considered the founder of Nigerian nationalism. The party represented the interests of the educated elites in Lagos and other parts of the country. It was based on the principles of liberalism and aimed to promote democracy and self-government for Nigeria. The NNDP was the dominant political party in Nigeria in the 1950s, and it played a significant role in the country's struggle for independence from British colonial rule.
