God told the prophet Jeremiah that He would give Jerusalem into the hands of the Chaldeans because the Israelites had provoked God to anger through their behavior and actions. As a result of their disobedience, God allowed their enemies, the Chaldeans, to conquer and rule over them. This was a punishment for their sin and a way for God to get their attention and encourage them to repent and return to Him.
