Lobbying is considered the most popular method because it is the default approach that virtually all pressure groups use, regardless of their type or cause. It is less disruptive than strikes or boycotts and is generally more effective at achieving specific policy outcomes because it targets decision-makers directly.

Strikes are a tool used primarily by labour unions and are more confrontational. Boycotts involve refusing to patronise or cooperate with a target and are used selectively. Electioneering (contesting elections) is the domain of political parties, not pressure groups. Pressure groups by definition seek to influence government policy without seeking to control government directly.
