The organ labelled IV is the liver. It is the largest internal organ in the human body and plays a central role in digestion by producing bile, which is stored in the gallbladder and released into the duodenum to emulsify fats. The liver also performs functions including detoxification of harmful substances, metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats, storage of glycogen and vitamins, and deamination of excess amino acids to form urea.
