The pituitary gland, often called the master gland, is a pea-sized structure attached to the hypothalamus by a stalk called the infundibulum. It is situated in a bony depression called the sella turcica of the sphenoid bone. The pituitary gland produces and secretes several hormones that regulate growth, metabolism, reproduction, and other vital body functions.
