Vestigial structures are anatomical features that have lost most or all of their original function through the course of evolution. The tiny, non-functional hind leg bones (pelvic bones) found inside a whale's body are a classic example of vestigial structures. These bones have no role in locomotion or swimming, yet they persist in the whale's skeleton.

The claim that whales are not related to land animals contradicts the fossil record, which shows a clear lineage of transitional forms (such as Pakicetus and Ambulocetus) connecting modern whales to land-dwelling ancestors. Saying whales have never had legs ignores the very evidence the question presents. And describing these tiny bones as serving a major swimming function is incorrect, since they are internal, reduced, and disconnected from the main skeleton in a way that provides no mechanical advantage for swimming.
