The reward for fasting is with whom?

The reward for fasting is with Allah alone. This is based on a well-known hadith qudsi (sacred hadith, where Allah speaks through the Prophet) recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim: "Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting; it is for Me, and I shall reward for it."

This hadith highlights the unique status of fasting among all acts of worship. While the rewards of other good deeds are calculated and multiplied by known amounts (for example, a good deed is multiplied tenfold to seven hundred times), the reward for fasting has no specified limit - it is reserved by Allah Himself and is beyond human calculation. Scholars explain that fasting is singled out because it is the most private act of worship: no one can truly verify whether a person is fasting except Allah, since fasting involves abstaining from actions (eating, drinking, and other physical desires) rather than performing visible deeds.

The angels record deeds but do not determine rewards. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) conveyed the message but does not assign rewards. The community benefits from collective worship but does not control divine recompense.
