The Prophet migrated from Makkah to which city?

The migration (Hijrah) of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE is one of the most significant events in Islamic history. The Prophet left Makkah because the persecution of Muslims by the Quraysh had become unbearable, and the people of Yathrib (later renamed Madinah, meaning "The City of the Prophet") had pledged allegiance to him and invited him to settle among them.

Madinah is the correct destination of the Hijrah. The other locations listed played different roles in early Islamic history. Abyssinia (modern-day Ethiopia) was the destination of an earlier, smaller migration where some persecuted Muslims sought refuge under the Christian king Negus, but the Prophet himself did not migrate there. Taif was a city where the Prophet once travelled to seek support but was rejected and stoned. Jerusalem (Al-Quds) is associated with the night journey (Isra and Mi'raj), not the Hijrah.

The Hijrah to Madinah marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar (Hijri calendar) and established the first organised Muslim community (Ummah), making it a turning point for the spread of Islam.
