Who was the Prophet given the Gospel (Injil)?

Prophet Isa (Jesus) was given the Gospel, known in Arabic as the Injil. The Qur'an states in Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:46): "And We sent, following in their footsteps, Isa, the son of Maryam, confirming that which came before him in the Torah; and We gave him the Injil, in which was guidance and light."

In Islamic belief, each of the major divine scriptures was revealed to a specific prophet. The four commonly referenced scriptures and their recipients are:

• The Suhuf (Scrolls) were given to Ibrahim (Abraham)
• The Tawrah (Torah) was given to Musa (Moses)
• The Zabur (Psalms) was given to Dawud (David)
• The Injil (Gospel) was given to Isa (Jesus)
• The Qur'an was given to Muhammad
