Which angel brought revelations to Prophet Muhammad (SAW)?

The angel responsible for bringing divine revelations to Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is Jibril (Gabriel). This is one of the most fundamental facts in Islamic belief. Jibril (AS) is the chief of the angels and the one entrusted by Allah with the delivery of His messages to all prophets, with the final and most significant being the revelation of the Qur'an to Muhammad (SAW).

The first revelation came through Jibril in the Cave of Hira on Mount Nur, when Jibril appeared to the Prophet and commanded him to read (Iqra'), as described in Surah Al-'Alaq (96:1-5). Jibril continued to bring revelations over approximately 23 years until the Qur'an was complete. The Qur'an itself refers to Jibril's role in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:97): "Say, whoever is an enemy to Jibril - it is he who has brought it (the Qur'an) down upon your heart by permission of Allah."

The other angels have different roles: Mikail (Michael) is responsible for provisions, sustenance, and natural phenomena such as rain. Israfil is the angel assigned to blow the trumpet (As-Sur) on the Day of Judgement. Malik is the keeper (guardian) of Hellfire, mentioned in Surah Az-Zukhruf (43:77).
