Answer Details

Battery decisions affect performance, safety, product life and disposal.

  • Choose the capacity. Greater capacity gives a longer run time between charges, but usually increases mass and cost. [1]
  • Decide whether it is user-replaceable. A replaceable battery can extend product life, but needs a suitable cover and connector. [1]
  • Specify the charging method and protection circuit, because overcharging presents a fire risk. [1]

Another valid decision is how the battery can be removed and recycled at end of life. [1]
