Question 1 Report
A group of students used Fig. 1 during a retail survey in a regenerated area of Glasgow. The diagram shows how an indoor market has been placed beside a railway station and a public square. The enquiry considered why some retail businesses choose accessible central locations rather than out-of-town sites.
(a) State the land use of the building in the centre of Fig. 1. [1]
(b) State two reasons why the market may attract customers at this location. [2]
(a) The central building is used for retail or commercial purposes: it is a market. [1]
(b) The market is close to a railway station, so customers can reach it by public transport. It also has easy access from the main street and is near the public square, where there may be many visitors. These factors create high footfall, making the location attractive for retailers. Any two valid reasons gain credit. [2]
