A dune restoration group is working on a windy coast in Wales. Fig. 1 shows the beach, embryo dunes with marram grass, taller fixed dunes and a boardwalk leading from a car park. Some visitors have created a shortcut across the dunes, exposing loose sand. The group wants to protect the vegetation because it is important for keeping the dune system stable.
