Annotated cross-profile along line A-B, showing intervening hills that obstruct intervisibility.

(ii) Points A and B are not intervisible. The intervening hills rise above the line of sight between A and B and therefore obstruct visibility.

(b) Effects of relief on transportation

  1. The area is mainly upland; consequently, road construction is difficult and transport routes are few.
  2. The rugged hills in the western and northern parts discourage the construction of roads and other transport lines.
  3. The less rugged eastern and south-eastern part permits a secondary road, while footpaths are few and widely spaced in the high-relief areas.

(c) Reasons for sparse population

  1. The western and northern parts are rugged, high and inaccessible; hence, there are few or no settlements there.
  2. Farming is difficult on the high, steep and rugged land, so few people settle in the area.
