In fish farming (aquaculture), cropping refers to the harvesting of fish from the pond once they have reached a marketable or desired size. The term borrows from crop agriculture, where "cropping" means gathering the mature product.

Stocking is the opposite end of the production cycle - it is the introduction of fingerlings (young fish) into the pond at the start of the rearing period. Feeding is the routine provision of feed to promote growth during the rearing phase. Fish storage refers to the preservation of harvested fish (e.g., smoking, drying, freezing) after they have already been removed from the water.

Cropping in a fish pond can be done all at once (complete or total harvesting) or selectively (partial harvesting), depending on whether the farmer wants to remove all fish or only those that have reached the target size while leaving smaller ones to grow further.
