The ECOWAS Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) was organized to maintain peace in Liberia. ECOMOG was a regional peacekeeping force created by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in 1990 to end the civil war in Liberia. ECOMOG's mission was to monitor the cease-fire, disarm warring factions, and provide security to the civilian population. The deployment of ECOMOG helped to stabilize the situation in Liberia and contributed to the resolution of the conflict.
