The Nigerian Youth Movement (NYM) was formed in 1934 (originally as the Lagos Youth Movement) and became one of the earliest nationalist organisations in Nigeria. Its objectives included the following.
Promotion of national unity: It sought to unite the various ethnic groups and peoples of Nigeria into one nation with a common sense of purpose, cutting across tribal lines.
Struggle for self-government: It aimed at achieving greater political participation and eventual self-government for Nigerians, opposing colonial domination.
