The low level of economic development in the Chad Basin of Nigeria is owing to its harsh climate. The Chad Basin has a hot and dry climate, with very little rainfall, making it difficult for agriculture to thrive. The harsh climate has also led to desertification and the encroachment of the Sahara desert, which further limits economic activities in the region. As a result, the region has low agricultural productivity, limited industrialization, and high poverty rates.
