In Arabic essay writing (الإنشاء), the introduction (المقدمة) sets the tone and direction of the entire composition. A strong introduction for an essay on a given topic should begin by clearly defining the subject and establishing its relevance. When the topic is العلم (knowledge/science), the most effective opening is تعريف للعلم وأهميته (a definition of knowledge and its importance), because it immediately anchors the reader in the subject matter and provides the foundation for all subsequent arguments.

Starting with a بيت شعر عن الجهل (a line of poetry about ignorance) might seem creative, but it focuses on the opposite of the topic rather than the topic itself, which weakens the opening. A قصة خيالية (fictional story) is not a standard academic essay technique for a definition-based topic. A موقف سياسي (political stance) is entirely unrelated to the theme of العلم and would be off-topic.

Exam tip: In essay-writing questions, the safest and most direct opening strategy is to define the key term in the title and state why it matters. This approach satisfies examiners because it shows clear focus and relevance from the first line.
