Ọkpukpu nwunye putara ...

The expression okpukpu nwunye is an Igbo phrase that combines okpukpu (bone/core/essence) with nwunye (wife). Literally, it means "the bone of a wife" - that is, the essential quality or substance of a wife.

In Igbo usage, okpukpu nwunye refers to a good, reliable wife - a woman who embodies the essential virtues expected of a wife in Igbo culture: loyalty, hard work, wisdom, and good character. The "bone" metaphor conveys strength, substance, and durability, as bones form the solid core of the body. A woman described as okpukpu nwunye is therefore ezi nwanyi (a good woman/wife).

The expression does not refer to disease (oria), children (umuaka), or a young maiden (nwa agbogho). It is a complimentary term for a wife of excellent character.
