N'egwuregwu "Obidiya," kedu isiokwu dị mkpa?

Obidiya is a well-known Igbo drama written by Godfrey Udechukwu. It is a set text for JAMB Igbo literature examinations.

The central theme (isiokwu di mkpa) of Obidiya is the oppression and maltreatment of women (mmegbu umu nwanyi). The play examines how women in traditional Igbo society suffer various forms of injustice, discrimination, and abuse. Through the experiences of the main character Obidiya and other female characters, the playwright highlights the struggles women face within cultural and social structures that disadvantage them.

The play is not primarily about marriage (ilu nwaanyi) as a ceremony, inter-community warfare (ogu n'etiti obodo), or entertainment (egwu egwu). While elements of marriage may appear in the story, the overarching message centres on the plight of women and the call for their fair treatment.
