Which of the following organisms exhibits extracellular digestion?
Answer Details
Moulds exhibit extracellular digestion. Extracellular digestion is a type of digestion in which the breakdown of complex molecules into smaller ones occurs outside the cell, in the extracellular space. Moulds secrete enzymes into their surroundings to break down organic matter, and then absorb the nutrients. In contrast, green plants, algae, and bryophytes utilize intracellular digestion, where digestion of complex molecules occurs within the cell.
