Question 1 Report

A family attends a music festival. Adult tickets cost \(£24.75\) and child tickets cost \(£14.50\).

  1. Work out the total ticket cost for a family of 2 adults and 3 children. (2)
  2. The family also buys a festival programme for \(£3.25\). Work out their total spend. (1)
  3. They pay with two \(£50\) notes. Work out how much change they receive. (2)

Answer Details

The total ticket cost is the number of each ticket type multiplied by its price, added together; adding the programme gives the total spend, and the change from a payment is the amount paid minus the total spend.

  1. \(2(24.75)+3(14.50)=49.50+43.50=\pounds93.00\) [2 marks]
  2. \(93.00+3.25=\pounds96.25\) [1 mark]
  3. Two \(\pounds50\) notes total \(\pounds100\); change \(=100-96.25=\pounds3.75\) [2 marks]
