- The baker has three more identical bags of flour. Work out the total mass of all four bags. (2)
Answer Details
On this scale, the labelled marks run from \(0\) to \(5\) kg, and each gap between consecutive labelled marks is split by four small unlabelled marks into five equal steps of \(0.2\) kg each. Reading the position of the arrow against these divisions gives the mass, and repeated identical bags each add the same mass again.
- The arrow points two small divisions (\(0.4\) kg) past the \(3\) kg mark, so the mass shown is \(3.4\) kg. [1 mark]
- Total mass of four identical bags \(=4\times3.4=13.6\) kg [2 marks]
