Read the project brief for a community repair cafe. Volunteers are preparing a printed information document for visitors who bring old phones and tablets to be repaired. Fig. 1 is a rough layout drawn by the coordinator. The finished document task must be easy to read from a noticeboard and must use the supplied image file charger.jpg and logo file repaircafe.png. The text file safecharge.txt contains advice that must be included. Visitors need clear information about safe charging before they leave a device at the cafe.
The coordinator will print the document in colour on A4 paper. Save your work as task_a1. Keep evidence of the completed document before you resave it if changes are needed.
(a) Use Fig. 1 and the supplied files to create a one-page information document for the repair cafe. Include a suitable heading, the supplied logo, the charger image and all of the supplied advice text. Make the heading more prominent than the body text. [4]
(b) Create a checklist in the document that gives three actions a visitor should take before charging a device. Use bullet points and place the checklist beside the image. [3]
(c) Create a footer containing the web address www.repaircafe.example/safety and the text Ask a volunteer if you are unsure. Make the footer easy to locate without distracting from the main information. [3]
Answer Details
(a) The completed one-page A4 document needs a prominent, suitable safe-charging heading, the supplied Repair Cafe logo, and the supplied charger image. Include all text from safecharge.txt and arrange it clearly so the heading is more prominent than body text. [4]
(b) Place a bullet-point checklist beside the charger image. It must give three relevant actions, for example:
- Inspect the cable for damage.
- Use a suitable charger.
- Keep the device away from water.
- Do not cover a device while it is charging.
- Unplug after charging.
Bullets make the actions quick to scan, and the position beside the image links the safety actions to the visual information. [3]
(c) Put www.repaircafe.example/safety and Ask a volunteer if you are unsure in the footer. The footer should be visibly separated and legible, but smaller or less prominent than the main safe-charging content so it does not distract. [3]
