In Amoeba, osmoregulation is carried out by the contractile vacuole. The contractile vacuole is responsible for regulating the water balance and maintaining homeostasis by expelling excess water that is constantly taken up by the cell through osmosis. When the contractile vacuole fills with water, it contracts and expels the excess water out of the cell, thus preventing it from bursting due to excess water intake.
