The device that converts light energy to electrical energy is a solar cell. Solar cells are made up of materials that absorb photons (particles of light) and release electrons, generating an electrical current. When sunlight hits the solar cell, the photons knock the electrons loose from their atoms, allowing them to flow through the material to produce electricity.
