Question 1 Report
The pie chart here represents the hypothetical output of farmers in a country in a particular year. The total output of the crops was 72,000 tonnes.
(a) Calculate the quantity of each product.
(b) (i) By what quantity is the export crops greater than the food crops?
(ii) Which crop contributed the least and by what quantity?
(iii) Which crop has the highest output?
Total output = 72,000 tonnes.
For each sector of the pie chart:
\[\text{Quantity} = \frac{\text{Angle of sector}}{360^\circ}\times 72,000\]
(a) Quantities of the products
| Product | Angle | Calculation | Quantity (tonnes) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cocoa | 117° | \(\frac{117}{360}\times72,000\) | 23,400 |
| Rubber | 96° | \(\frac{96}{360}\times72,000\) | 19,200 |
| Beans | 50° | \(\frac{50}{360}\times72,000\) | 10,000 |
| Cotton | 42° | \(\frac{42}{360}\times72,000\) | 8,400 |
| Rice | 55° | \(\frac{55}{360}\times72,000\) | 11,000 |
(b)(i) Export crops are cocoa, rubber and cotton:
\[23,400+19,200+8,400=51,000\text{ tonnes}\]
Food crops are beans and rice:
\[10,000+11,000=21,000\text{ tonnes}\]
\[51,000-21,000=30,000\text{ tonnes}\]
Therefore, export crops exceed food crops by 30,000 tonnes.
(b)(ii) Cotton contributed the least, with 8,400 tonnes.
(b)(iii) Cocoa has the highest output, with 23,400 tonnes.
