More Hydroelectric Power (HEP) projects should be constructed in Tropical Africa because there is an increasing demand for power. Tropical Africa is experiencing rapid population growth, urbanisation, and industrialisation, all of which drive a growing need for electricity. Many areas still lack reliable power supply, and the demand for energy far outstrips current generating capacity.

Tropical Africa has excellent natural conditions for hydroelectric power: abundant rainfall feeds large rivers with high and consistent discharge, and the terrain includes numerous waterfalls, rapids, and steep gradients that provide the head of water needed to generate electricity. Existing HEP projects such as the Akosombo Dam (Ghana), Kainji Dam (Nigeria), and Inga Dam (Democratic Republic of Congo) demonstrate this potential, but much of it remains untapped.

The other options actually describe obstacles or irrelevant factors rather than reasons for building more HEP:

• Scarcity of skilled labour is a challenge to construction, not a reason to build more projects.
• There is no absence of waterfalls on rivers in Tropical Africa; on the contrary, the region has many suitable sites.
• Tropical Africa receives abundant rainfall, not scanty rainfall. High rainfall ensures the rivers needed for HEP are well supplied with water.
