A bevel-edged chisel (a firmer chisel is also accepted) [1]. The bevelled edges allow the chisel to reach into corners of the housing, and the flat back lets it pare the base to a smooth, even depth.
(b) Describe how the chisel is used to remove the waste material from the housing [3]
- The chisel is held with the bevel facing down against the timber [1]. This orientation gives the user control over the depth of each cut and prevents the blade from digging too deeply into the wood.
