Fig. 1.1 shows a tidal barrage built across the mouth of a river. How does the barrage generate electricity?
The correct answer is water flowing through it turns turbines as the tide rises and falls. A tidal barrage traps water at high tide. As the tide falls, the difference in water level forces water through turbines inside the barrage, driving generators. It does not work like a battery, it does not burn fuel, and sunlight is not directly converted to current.
