The table compares two types of respiration by their features. Which type is respiration A?

Answer Details

Respiration A uses oxygen and releases a large amount of energy, giving carbon dioxide and water, which are the features of aerobic respiration. Respiration B, using no oxygen, releasing little energy and producing lactic acid, is anaerobic respiration. Combustion is burning (not respiration in cells) and photosynthesis makes food using light rather than releasing energy from it, so neither fits. The use of oxygen with products of carbon dioxide and water identifies aerobic respiration.
