Question 1 Report

A learner says that breathing in and out is the same characteristic as respiration. Which correction is accurate?

Answer Details

Respiration and breathing are not the same. Respiration is the chemical release of energy from nutrient molecules that takes place inside cells; breathing (ventilation) is only the muscular movement of air into and out of the lungs. The correct statement keeps these distinct, whereas swapping the two, or claiming they are identical terms, mixes up a cellular chemical process with a simple physical movement of air. In the exam, never write breathing when respiration is meant.
