(b) Give two examples of Web 2.0 applications. [2]

(c) Explain how Web 2.0 has changed the way people share information. [2]

Answer Details

(a) Two features of Web 2.0 that differ from Web 1.0:

  • Web 2.0 allows users to create, share and publish their own content (user-generated content), whereas Web 1.0 was mostly read-only, with content created only by website owners. [1]
  • Web 2.0 supports interaction and collaboration between users (through comments, social sharing and co-editing), while Web 1.0 pages were mostly static with no user interaction. [1]

(b) Two examples of Web 2.0 applications:

  • Social media platforms such as Facebook or Twitter, where users create and share posts, photos and videos. [1]
  • Wikis such as Wikipedia, where multiple users collaboratively create and edit encyclopedia articles. [1]

(c) Web 2.0 has changed the way people share information because it enables anyone to publish and share content easily without needing specialist technical skills. [1] As a result, information can spread rapidly through social sharing, comments and collaborative platforms, rather than being controlled and distributed by a few website owners as in the Web 1.0 era.
