(a) When the violins enter with an independent line that weaves around the oboe melody, the texture becomes polyphonic (also called contrapuntal). [1] Polyphonic texture is created when two or more independent melodic lines sound simultaneously, each with its own rhythm and contour. Here, the oboe and violin lines are both melodically significant and move independently of each other, rather than one simply accompanying the other.
(b) One way the composer could use dynamics to create a climax: the composer could use a crescendo, gradually increasing the volume from a quiet dynamic (such as piano) to a loud dynamic (such as forte or fortissimo). [1] Additional instruments could also be added to increase the overall dynamic level.
